About Offwell Village
Picture
The village lies at the top of a valley of woods and pasture and is about 8 miles from the sea at Lyme Bay. For most of its history it has been home to just a few hundred people and its population remains constant to this day.

The village has three spaces for events all of which are available for hire; Offwell Village Hall, Social Club and Jubilee Room benefit from a large car park with a capacity of up to 70 vehicles.

Offwell village has a beautiful old church (c. 1200), a voluntary aided church primary school, a sports field and children’s play area, a social club, and a large village hall.

The wider parish of Offwell has a garage & petrol station and shop, a plant nursery, the East Devon Business Park and Mount Pleasant Workshops as well as nine farms and award winning holiday accommodation (see business pages).

It is also home to the Offwell Woodland & Wildlife Trust, once Bishop Copleston’s pleasure garden. With 50 acres of wetland wildlife habitats it now provides a valuable educational resource both locally and internationally.

In 2013 Offwell was awarded “Best Kept Small Village” and in 2014 runner-up in the Small Village (past winners)  CPRE Devon. In 2016 The Offwell Haycart won first prize in the “Most Creative and Distinctive planted outdoor space” category of the Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) ‘Our Outdoors Competition’.
